The Janka Scale rating for a species of hardwood flooring is determined by measuring the amount of pressure that is required to embed an 11 mm steel ball into the wood's core until half of the ball's diameter is embeded below the surface. This rating system can be helpful when determining which products will wear better than others. However, keep in mind that there are also many other factors involved in determining the overall performance and durability of prefinished engineered wood flooring (such as finish quality, type of cut, height of finish layer, amount of ply layers, etc.) Our hardwood experts are always available for consultation to help you find the perfect flooring for your home.
